LORD CUNNINGHAM'S FAILURE TO DISCLOSE LOBBYING MUST BE INVESTIGATED - LAMB

11.09.00am GMT Mon 18th Feb 2008

Liberal Democrat front-bencher Norman Lamb has asked for an official investigation of Lord Cunningham following the revelation that the former Cabinet minister is being paid by the City of London Corporation to secure meetings with prominent Government ministers.

Lord Cunningham's entry in the House of Lords Register of Financial Interests includes work on behalf of two lobbying groups but makes no mention of the work he carried out for the City of London.

Norman Lamb has written to the Registrar of Lords' Interests, asking him to investigate.

Commenting, Norman Lamb said:

"We must have total transparency. It appears that Lord Cunningham may have failed to comply with the rules on disclosure. This is certainly something that needs to be investigated.

"The public must have access to all relevant information about politicians' financial interests. In this case, Lord Cunningham does not appear to have provided these details.

"We don't want the prospect of financial gain after they leave office to in any way influence the conduct of ministers while in office."
