GOVERNMENT WAR WITH GPs IS HUGELY DAMAGING - LAMB

10.30.35am GMT Mon 18th Feb 2008

Commenting on Alan Johnson's decision to write to every GP in England about surgery opening hours, Liberal Democrat Shadow Health Secretary, Norman Lamb said:"The Government has started a war with GPs by blaming them for problems with a contract which they themselves forced through only a few years ago.

"This is hugely damaging. Only cooperation with GPs can make more flexible opening hours work for patients.

"Ministers are also wrong to seek to impose a national blueprint for extended hours on practices serving very different areas. Improved access must come from local solutions."
