REPORT INTO JUNIOR DOCTOR FIASCO A VOTE OF NO CONFIDENCE IN THE GOVERNMENT - LAMB

9.09.02am GMT Wed 9th Jan 2008

Commenting on today's final report of the Independent Inquiry into Modernising Medical Careers, led by Professor Sir John Tooke, Liberal Democrat Shadow Health Secretary, Norman Lamb said: "This is an extraordinary vote of no confidence in this Government's stewardship of the NHS. There is now a consensus that ministers cannot be trusted with the money and organisation needed to train our doctors.

"Government incompetence ruined the training chances of many doctors last year and threatens to do so again for those applying for placements now.

"The recommendations seem to make sense but will not help junior doctors this year, many of whom will be left without work after an expensive training programme."
