COMPLAINTS IN THE NHS MUST BE HANDLED BETTER - LAMB

1.00.00am GMT Mon 8th Oct 2007

Commenting on today's Healthcare Commission report on how complaints are handled in the NHS, Liberal Democrat Shadow Health Secretary, Norman Lamb MP said: "This report very much strikes a chord with my experience of dealing with the complaints of my constituents who have had problems with their hospital or GP. All too often complaints are 'processed' without the issue being fundamentally looked at."

"It is basic common sense that Trusts should make sure that they take action to change their practices after legitimate complaints are made, but too many simply aren't doing this."

"It is imperative that Trusts take on board the findings of this report and change the way they handle complaints. Patients should feel free to complain without being scared that their care will suffer as a result."

"This report highlights the importance of NHS Trusts treating patients with decency and respect, and being accountable to the people they serve."
