DAMNING NHS POLL SHOWS LOSS OF TRUST BETWEEN DOCTORS AND GOVERNMENT - LAMB

3.51.14pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 25th Jun 2007

The Liberal Democrats have pointed to a poll of medical professionals as evidence of how the Government has lost the trust of the NHS workforce. The poll, published in Doctor Magazine, reveals that almost three-quarters of GPs and consultants believe Government reforms will kill off the NHS.

Commenting, Liberal Democrat Shadow Health Secretary, Norman Lamb MP said:

"Gordon Brown has managed to achieve the remarkable feat of paying more to GPs and yet spectacularly losing their confidence.

"It is remarkable that despite GPs receiving significant increases in pay, their attitude towards the Government and it's stewardship of the NHS is so extremely negative.

"The Prime Minister in waiting may say improving the NHS is his top priority, but he has been central to all the changes that have so dramatically led to this damaging loss of trust."
