Norman Lamb has welcomed the news today that the influential Treasury Select Committee is launching an inquiry into cash machine charges.
"With the ever-increasing burden of personal debt that affects many people in Britain, this is exactly the kind of issue that should be scrutinised by the Treasury Select Committee", said Norman Lamb today.
"I've heard stories of exorbitant fees being charged by machines in nightclubs and pubs," Mr Lamb also said. "This is clearly taking advantage of a captive market, and more importantly suggests that there is no direct link between the amount charged and the actual cost of dispensing the money."
"People in rural areas such as North Norfolk are much more vulnerable to cash machine charges as they often don't have an alternative machine nearby", Mr Lamb added. "I am very pleased that the Treasury Select Committee has agreed to investigate this issue."
