Lamb to take part in 'Million Faces Petition' in Holt

5.02.20pm GMT Fri 5th Dec 2003

Norman Lamb will be one of a million faces to be photographed as part of a global petition for tougher arms control at a special event in Holt.

Mr Lamb said: "The global arms trade looks increasingly out of control, and many millions of people are suffering as a result. Killings, poverty and disease all result from the current situation. Many countries are now awash with arms, stifling their future development".

Norman Lamb has been one of the leading campaigners for the Democratic Republic of Congo, demanding that the Government takes action against British companies and individuals implicated in fuelling the Civil War which has killed three and a half million people.

The million faces petition is a campaign jointly organised by Amnesty International, International Arms Network on Small Arms (IANSA) and Oxfam. It aims to collect a million photos and self portraits of people all around the world to demonstrate to governments the need for effective action to control the arms trade. Anyone can add their face to the petition by visiting the website http://www.controlarms.org/

Human Rights Day is the 10 December.
